I only have experience with log4net however that does not mean that there are not better fish in the sea. I don't have time to go fishing but I do I have 60 seconds to post to SO.

So what all has everyone used and their experiences with it?

  • I understand this is subjective, but please provide concrete reasons of why you have your opinion (Such as Acme Logging worked very well in that configuration, or it didn't support remote monitoring which we needed, etc).

I'd recommend taking a look at ELMAH

EDIT : I forgot my opinion: SO uses it :)

In case you want to remote via log4net UDP appenders, try logFaces, it can be an aggregator with permanent storage, or a real-time log viewer, or both. Centralized log management has obvious benefits for me. It lets me know what is going on in each application or any host running it, it lets you filter the flood of log statements and focus on particular item - this is especially good for larger distributed applications. And of course the storage. If you don't see problem in real-time, you can dig it out real quick. Another point - no need to manage log files, they can be re-created from the storage any time, in any form and for any correlation you wish.
