I'm looking for a rumored API/SDK for Dentrix.

Does anybody have any experience or has anybody seen it? What are the capabilities, limitations, etc...?

Jason, did you ever make any progress on this? I need to dig into a Dentrix database and am running into nothing but dead ends.

Nothing useful. I really need to write to a Dentrix database, which while I may be able to do with TwoBitsShort ODBC driver, it may be very problematic... I can't be liable for causing a problem to patient data. I was really looking for an approved method for doing this, which I do not think exists except maybe with direct authority from Henry Schein.

Unfortunately I think you're right. I'm just reading from the db but I've been having great luck with it so far. Thanks!

Hi, Open Dental can convert Dentrix databases to MySQL tables. We charge conversion fees, but it may be an option for you if you only need a static copy of the data (or if you want to switch to Open Dental). I have been examining the ".dat" files for the last three years, and I have them pretty well figured out. I strip the data directly out of the ".dat" files, and I then plug the data into MySQL tables for the purpose of conversion. Feel free and give me a call at 971-239-1150 if you need more information. I probably know more about the Dentrix ".dat" files than the support staff at Dentrix.
