Hi!
Is it a common thing for bigger applications and databases to GZIP text data before inserting it to the database?
I'll guess that any full-text search on the actual text field will not be working before unzipping it again?

I'm evaluating the front end performance of a secure (SSL) web app here at work and I'm wondering if it's possible to compress text files (html/css/javascript) over SSL. I've done some googling around but haven't found anything specifically related to SSL. If it's possible, is it even worth the extra CPU cycles since responses are also...
Hi all,
I've been trying unsuccessfully to enable gzip HTTP compression on my Windows Azure hosted WCF Restful service which returns JSON only from GET and POST requests.

In this answer, I described how I resorted to wrappnig a GZipStream around the response stream in a HttpWebResponse, in order to decompress it.
The relevant code looks like this:
HttpWebRequest hwr = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create(url);
hwr.CookieContainer =
PersistentCookies.GetCookieContainerForUrl(url);
hwr.Accept = "text/...
I added following file
deployers\jbossweb.deployer\server.xml
<Connector compression="force"
compressionMinSize="512"
noCompressionUserAgents="gozilla, traviata"
compressableMimeType="text/html,text/xml,image/png,text/css,text/javascript">

But fiddler shows that jboss does not compress responses.
