I have some JDO objects that I want to spring to configure with info from a property file.
But since spring isn't used to create (i.e these objects are not listed as beans in the xml. Should they, how would it look?) these objects how can I get it to configure those objects?
Only solution I can come up with is to have the property fil...

Do you always assign null to an object after its scope has been reached?
Or do you rely on the JVM for garbage collection?
Do you do it for all sort of applications regardless of their length?
If so, is it always a good practice?

Hello,
I'm trying to get cdata text from a node using dom4j java. My issue here is that all of the line breaks are removed. Essentially, I need to read the contents of the CDATA as if it were a <pre> tag in HTML.
Do you have any ideas? I have a very small time to get this done unfortunately so any help would be appreciated.

We are thinking of transitioning a large product from relying on Sun's JVM to JRockit.
I'm not naive enough to believe that this is going to be a smooth transition (though I'd love to be wrong).
What issues should we watch out for or focus our regression testing on?

I am trying to use the FileOpenSerivce, but I always get an UnaivableServiceException regardless of whether I run it from Eclipse, or from my local webserver using the jnlp file.
I am using an unsigned jar, which from what I understand is ok.
I got a debugger connected, and when running under Webstart, everything seems to succeed just...

I am hitting an issue with my Hibernate backed Jpa queries returning data that is not up to date. I assume it is an issue with pulling data from the cache instead of the database itself.
For example, I will change and persist an object on one page and then go back to the previous page, which lists rows of the database, and it will show ...
Generally
We have some business logic that is causing a bottle neck within a transaction. The business logic queries the database for a set of data (read only), processes it, and returns an object. This must be done many times with varying parameters in a given request. Can we theoretically break off each business logic call into a sepa...
Hi,
I have an API that returns XML, it actually returns it using the default encoding (I believe it's UTF-8), but now requirements have changed and we need to return everything in UTF-16LE.
My question is: is there an easy way of doing this? I have access to the response just before the calls complete so I was wondering if I could do s...
Hey guys, This is probably a very beginner level question. But I need to get hold of the request object in java code. I can't pass this object down to my code for certain reasons. Is there any way I can say something like: getCurrentHTTPServletRequest?
It is safe for me to assume that I am in a Servlet Context.

Hello,
I would like to implement something equivalent to the unix command 'rm foo*' using Java. Obviously, I want it to be multi platform. I know that this can be done using the FilenameFilter class and File.delete() method, but I was wondering if I can perform this simple operation in a less verbose way.
Thanks in advance.

When I execute the batch file directly in DOS, everything runs as expected.
But when I execute the batch file from Java runTime, it will run only the commands that invoke jar files (ie. invoke the JVM). It does not run any native dos commands.
One problem is that I have no console to know why this is happening. I'm wondering if it's...
I'm working on a Java/Groovy program. I have a double variable that holds a number that was typed in by a user. What I really want to know is how many numbers the user typed to the right of the decimal place. Something like:

Of course, you can't do this with a double since that's using IEEE flo...
