A little background first. I am looking into the possibility of implementing Ruby's ActiveRecord in Java as cleanly and succinctly as possible. To do this I would need to allow for the following type of method call:
Person person = Person.find("name", "Mike");
Which would resolve to something like:
ActiveRecord.find(Person.class, "na...
Hi,
I am developing a J2ME application to run in public areas, like supermarkets, shopping centers, etc. So, I want to make possible to install my application in every mobile phones nearby via bluetooth. I have always been a .NET developer. I have created some Swing apps in the past and I handle the java language pretty well but I don't have much knowledge of Java EE or any other relevant technologies for entreprise application development.
1) What are the relevant technologies for entreprise development in java?

Suppose, I have a method with a parameter of Object type.
The method returns nothing - void.
First it checks whether the parameter is not null (or any other check, like objectParam.isEnabled())
if (objectParam.isEnabled()) {
// ok
}
Now, if the condition is satisfied, I need local variables. If it's not, then I don't need any var...
I have a list. The list can contain multiple items of the same enum type.
Lets say i have an enum : TOY which has values: BALL, DOLL, PLAYSTATION. I want to know how many PLAYSTATION items are in a list with the type TOY. (ie, List<Toy> toys)

A. Describe what happens the variables ‘a’ and ‘x’ during the execution of the ‘main’
and ‘add1’ methods in the class below. Clearly specify which are the formal and actual
parameters when the ‘add1’ method is called.

I'm importing 2 models in Java3D, scaling them down and then rotating one of them using a RotationInterpolator
However, this rotates the object around the origin. I want to rotate the object around ITS centre, not the scene's. Put simply, I want it to spin in place.
How do I rotate around a specific point?

I've created a simple plugin project in eclipse 3.5 that just stores third-party libraries for the use by other bundles in an eclipse RCP application. Worked as expected: I edited the manifest, exported the required packages and added the libraries to the build path (project build path as well as manifest build path).
Some days later I ...
Hi,
We have an API which is used in a class via an exposed interface. The API is meant for UNIX family and assumes, that every UNIX has /bin/sh. Thus when running the junit test under win32 we get:
Cannot run program "/bin/sh"
Is it a catch-22 situation or there is a chance to work it out? Maybe some framework other than junit exists ...
What should I (as a Java programmer who doesn't know anything about JVM internals) do when I come across a JVM crash?
In particular, how would you produce a reproducible test case? What should I be searching for in Sun's (or IBM's) bug database? What information can I get from the log files produced (e.g. hs_err_pidXYZ.log)?

Hi,
I'm trying to insert an HTML blob into our sql-server2005 database. i've been using the data-type [text] for the field the blob will eventually live in. i've also put a '@Lob' annotation on the field in the domain model. The problem comes in when the HTML blob I'm attempting to store is larger than 65536 characters. Its seems that...

I have a piece of code in Java which draws 2 icons to the screen. I want to enforce a delay between them, and am unsure of the best way.
At the moment I have;

cell2.setIcon(image2);
But this seems to cause the delay before either are drawn. Why is this, and how can...
