I'm tired of browsing through the App Store checking my rankings in different categories, and counting the pages to calculate my app's rank. I saw that sites like apptism.com show the "popular rank" of each app, although they only seem to update it once a day. How do they get this data?

Mobile Orchard discussed this recently: http://www.mobileorchard.com/mining-app-store-rankings-for-popular-apps-worldwide/

Thanks. Mobile Orchard says it only works for numbers lower than 100, if true, that's no good for me. Still I'm trying to use the script but no luck. Seems like the developer is working on a new version, we'll see.

They get it by "scraping" the app store. You cant get ranks in other countries through iTunes though so you may want to use something like appfigures.com. It provides rank trending from multiple app stores around the world and saves that info so you can see the trend.

I use MajicRank for this: http://iphone.keyvisuals.com/iphonedev/majicrank-free-app-ranking-tool

For perl code that'll scrape the raw data, take a look here: http://www.pearcomp.com/files/app_rank.pl

– so it turns out it is a programming related question, if you have a little imagination and the tendency to automate (which I'd hope any programmer would).

I agree with Jun. They do really scrape information about apps from App Store. I found an application that can scrape information about all the apps. You can check it out on www.appstoresdk.com. Hope that will help some of you, guys. Peace!

I use "UpRank" from AppStore. Fast, simple and does the job. When I'm next to my computer I sometimes use applizer.com
