Hi,Is there a form of legal restriction(s) from using Pagerank o HITS Algorithm?I am in the process of creating a geographical search engine, but i am wonder if i can use the pagerank Algorithm or that of HITS.

If there are restrictions, will those restrictions still apply if i modify the implementation of the algorithm?

Thanks in advance.

The PageRank algorithm has been patented by Stanford University (U.S. Patent 6285999) and is pretty rock-solid so no you will not be able to use that algorithm.

if used, how will they find out?

they probably won't care if what your doing is not for profit. As soon as you start making monetary gains, you can legally be sued for any profits (estimated or real) that you have made of the use of their intellectual property.
