Increase the Load Speed of a Tree Control in Flex

When loading a data set from Java into Flex it takes a long time to load and display in a Tree control. How can I increase the speed of this operation?

Additionally, I would like to load more data into my tree when a parent node is clicked. How can I achieve this?
