• Yes, Fast provide SharePoint connecter to index SharePoint content (including content, metadata, security)
• Yes, Fast can be integrated into SharePoint so you can launch search from your portal. However, this integration is not really part of the product as it is released to codeplex (with community support) http://www.codeplex.com/espwebparts

You could also look at Microsoft Search Server and Search Server Express, that are less powerfull, but also a lot cheaper (the last one is free).

neither really, or either, i tried looking on the microsft fast website, but didnt know where to look. I deal with google search appliances, know little about the microsoft stuff, was just wondering if it could, as i was asked.
