This may not be programming related b ut this is definitely related to software engineering. So please read once before voting to close.

Quite often we are caught up with our own product releases that we tend to forget the new releases given by microsoft or any other dependent companies. For example, suppose a product is qualified with Win2k3 server enterprise edition for about 4 years.

Now windows 7, windows server 2008 has released. But we are caught up with enhancements on our own product that we forget to qualify the product with Windows 7, windows server 2008. You realise this when all of a sudden you get a mail stating that microsoft is going to stop support of WIn2k3 and all your customers buy new machines with windows server 2008 installed.

My question is what is the best way to deal with such situations. Since there are experts here who mus thave worked in many companies there must be some way how this is done in major companies.

Same thing would go with respect to supporting .Net 3.5, VS2010 etc.
