I find that as a beginner, it's common to get stuck in a project. Say it's something I have to do before I can move on...
Go out and take a walk to clear my head. This normally give me the breathing room to think instead of simply react.
In this order:
- you try all the simple approaches
- you signal the problem
- you ask someone who is more experienced, if available
- you don't give up until you are told to do something else
of course.. that you scan the internet for a solution if that can help, and most time it will
It is very important to correctly identify if you're stuck. You realize that the direction you're working in is not right and you find no other creative ideas popping up to solve the problem. That means my brain is tired and no matter what you do at that point, you're not gonna make it. The very first thing I do in this situation is STOP working(thinking) on the problem since it's not gonna help. I'd go and get a coffee, go for a walk or do something that pleases me like listening to my favorite songs, playing a good game, or watch funny videos on youtube, may be take nap to reduce the stress or in the worst conditions call it a day if possible at all.
The whole idea is to relax your brain and not to stress it to an extent that you lose interest.
Later when I'm relaxed and feel I'm back in action, I'd take over the problem. Many a time the solution comes to you from very unreasonable sources or while doing some very different activity. I clicked the idea while I was brushing my teeth the next day in the morning.
What I have learned from my experiences is that your brain needs to remain calm and relax while you expect to think in the right direction and stress keeps you doing so which is the situation we call
STUCK
. So do all that reduces the stress and let it work in relaxed mode.
Never give up
Persistence will pay off (so long as a solution actually exists).
Here is an old saying:
A black belt is simply a white belt that never gave up..
