which causes an access denied error for anyone who doesn't have access to the root directory. But, this doesn't happen consistently - it starts happening every couple of days. If someone starts getting this error, the only solution is to do a fresh checkout of the project (which always fixes the problem). More than one person has this problem.

We're using the VisualSVN server and everyone is using the TortoiseSVN client.

Does anyone have an idea of why SVN would try to access the repository root directory when updating (but never doing it when checking out a fresh copy)? How might I go about figuring out what the cause is?

Thanks.
