Project Management tool on Linux

Question

I recently switched my work laptop to Linux. The problem is that I have to be able to use Microsoft Project for maintaining project plans.

Is there a project alternative on linux that is able to read and write MS project files?

So far I tried openproj, gantproject and planner, but neither one of them can write mpp files.

I have come across a tool called Projman. Never used it myself, but I have heard from others who have found it passable. Runs under GNOME and is compatible with Planner.

EDIT: Sorry, just finished actually reading your question. I don't know if it has any mpp capability.

I believe GanttProject can do this, http://ganttproject.biz/. It's java-based and supposedly runs on most platforms. I've personally only tried it in windows though.

If this is what you're referring to, then I suggest you take one more look, as I'm quite sure it can save MS project files.

There is new online service www.ganttzilla.com for HTML rendering of MPP and MPX files. So this tool can be used for viewing and broadcasting of MS Project files for Linux users.

I know that there is an import/export function for MS Project in VisionProject. We are using this system and are really satisfied with it. The best thing is that it is web-based, but you can choose to have it installed on one of your servers or to have it hosted by the vendor.

I've heard of ganttproject and taskjuggler project managing software for linux os.. have not tried yet. Prefer to work on windows platform :) and using Microsoft project EPM software for handling multiple project task management.
