How do you keep track of programming/technology events in your location?

Question

The major events such as Microsoft PDC or Google Developer Day or the Business of Software ;) are widely advertised and discussed.

But i am sure lot of other interesting events on Leadership skills, Softskills, management training and etc which happens silently right in city that you realize just bit late.

How do you manage to keep track of these things? Are there any technical events alerts serive?

There is upcoming, a service now owned by yahoo. It shows all kind of upcoming events and you can filter them on location and topics.

I read most of the local blogs and some mailing lists. Most of the new events are somehow announced on this channels.

The Google Developer Events Calendar has a handy map, although I don't think you can get a separate feed for different locations.
