I've been stuck working with Microsoft Commerce Server 2007, in which documentation is almost non-existent (no books etc). Can someone point me to some good examples of eligibility expressions syntax and available variables particularly how it is related to setting up discounts?

James, you are right, there are not a lot of resources available for Commerce Server 2007. We have successfully built our share of CS2007 stores and have vast experience in utilizing the Marketing Manager to generate campaigns as well as training Business Users to take full advantage of the existing capabilities. However, there are some tasks, that are better custom developed.

Specifically I want to create a simple discount and somehow tie one or more Ads to it so that when the user is looking at the product the discount applies to it will show targeted Ads that I related to the discount. Do you have code that could you could share to illustrate things like this?

James, you can probably achieve this if you treat them separately. You would create targeted ads (per sku/category/department); and then you would have discounts specific to some expression. So the ads would display on their own, and the discounts would kick in at checkout.

the other option is to use custom Pipeline components as well as custom code; but i think the above would be fairly simple.

James, Commerce Server 2007 truly is a great engine for e-commerce. I have some documentation if you would like. Otherwise I would steer you to the msdn site for commerce server 2007 tons of helpful info. -mike

That documentation would be great. I have not really found any really good syntax examples that are beyond the most basic in the MSDN documentation.
