I need to add Live Chat support to a clients e-commerce site. It doesn't need to be too complex as the website is only managed by a couple of people. A FOSS solution would be prefered, but that's not a showstopper.

The site is coded in PHP, but Python/Ruby/Perl would be available for this if necessary. and we're running on a dedicated Ubuntu Server.

Any recommendations or otherwise?

Liveperson.com is simple and easy to get installed and running. I recommend it. It's just a javascript include. Placement of live chat is also very important. Good luck.

Crafty Syntax Live Help is not bad. It's open source GPL.

You could also try Chat4Assist : http://www.chat4assist.com/

The website is freakin' empty, but the developers behind WillowChat have got it going on. It's Comet-based - no plugins - and sits on top of IRC.

You can try Citricle Live Support. You can integrate it in 2 minutes with just copy & paste and start your chat right away.

In my opinion responseque.com is the #1 when it comes to a live chat support software. They have an awesome "answer only once" feature that makes it priceless. (but it is pretty cheap regardless)

I advice you to take a look at the live chat software offered by Comm100. It is easy to integrate with. There is no need to install, just sign up for it, Then you can chat with your website visitors. Very easy!
