Is there an easy way to do backup/restore phone data?
This is the only thing I currently us vmware for, because the nokians are strict about recognizing the OS - it doesn't work with wine.
Depends on what data you want to save i guess.
If you connect the phone via usb to the linux machine, it should just automount the device just fine and you can copy any files from there (atleast it does so w/ ubuntu 8/9, fedora 9/10/11)
If you want to syncronize contacts/calendar info then you need abit of hacking with syncml/multisync tools but its doable.
You can use the backup function of the Nokia phone (found in Tools -> Memory -> Options -> Back up phone memory), which will save all data on the phone to the SD card. The backup is then found as \Backup\Backup.arc on the SD card. You can use the USB cable, Bluetooth, WLAN or an SD card reader to copy all the SD card contents including the backup file to your computer.
To restore, you just have to copy the backup file back to the SD card and then use the Memory tool on the phone to copy the backup data back on the phone.
