I have a JAR file that contains an application as well as configuration files for that application. The application loads configuration files from the classpath (using ClassLoader.getResource()), and has its dependencies completely satisfied using the configuration files baked into the JAR file.
On occasion I want the application to be ...
There's always a balance when deciding whether to use a 3rd party library or write your own code. Writing your own takes time and will incur a maintenance cost. Using the 3rd party library has its downsides too, with the potential for version incompatibilities every time you update the dependencies.
With some libraries, the downsides ...

I'm using maven to build a ".ear" project that resolves dependencies from a maven repository, and then packages them into an ear (that's probably a redundant sentence...).
When the dependencies show up in the ear file, they're named according to this format:
<artifactId>-<version>.<type>
I'd like them to be named:

I remember that a while ago I found a truly great utility here on StackOverflow for manipulating XML documents with an interface like:
new XMLTool(document)
.goTo("xpath")
.addNode("name")
.addChild()
.addContent("xxx")
.parent()

I've heard people advise that one should always use the Iterator pattern to control loops rather than throwing an exception (which is how it's done in Python iterators) or using the Sentinel pattern, whereby a special, sentinel value (often null) is returned to indicate the end of the iteration.

Since it would be a huge amount of pain to wrap the entire jetty server with all its ...

I have checked out a bunch of java code using subversion 1.6 and then I imported those projects into eclipse. Subclipse 1.6 picked up the fact that the plugins are under version control, except for a few folders.
