Consider the following association
Book has OneToMany Chapters
If i execute:
session.save(book)
session.save(chapter)
session.getTransaction().commit()
Hibernate generates insert query for Book and insert query for Chapter
But if i execute:

I am trying to map a normalized Java model to a legacy database schema using Hibernate 3.5. One particular table encodes a foreign keys in a one-to-many relationship as a bit array column.
Consider tables person and club that describes people's affiliations to clubs:
person: .----.------. club: .----.---------.----------------------...
I am using NHibernate in an MVC 2.0 application. Essentially I want to keep track of the number of times each product shows up in a search result. For example, when somebody searches for a widget the product named WidgetA will show up in the first page of the search results. At this point i will increment a field in the database to refl...
Hi,
I'm testing the CRUD operations of my DAOs in JUnit tests.
When i execute the single test, Hibernate always resets the schema and populates the DB in a known state. But when i execute multiple tests in a row, Hibernate resets the schema once, and then the data is accumulated during the execution of the tests.
This is an unexpected...
This is a real beginner Hibernate problem. I have a problem with the mappings for two tables. The first table is MARKET, and the second is MARKET_MENU_BRANCH which contains a list of rows for each MARKET row. When I save a new Market, I want it to insert both MARKET and MARKET_MENU_BRANCH rows, but in fact it seems to insert MARKET an...
I'm trying to map a many-to-one relationship from MarketMenuBranch to Market. My classes look like:
public class Market implements Serializable {
private int id;
private String name;
private List<MarketMenuBranch> marketMenuBranches;
// accessors / mutators etc...
public class MarketMenuBranch implements Serializable {...
Hi all
I dont know if its a django bug or a feature but i have a strange ORM behaviour with MySQL.
class Status(models.Model):
name = models.CharField(max_length = 50)
class Article(models.Model)
status = models.ForeignKey(status, blank = True, null=True)
filters = Q(status__in =[0, 1,2] ) | Q(status=None)

I spent the rest of the evening reading StackOverflow questions and also some blog entries and links about the subject. All of them turned out to be very helpful, but I still feel that they don't really answer my question.
So, I'm developing a simple web application. I'd like to create a reusable data access layer which I can later reus...

We have an application (Java) with an own OR mapper. Within this system we have what can be compared to Hibernate's interceptors (we call it triggers): Do specific actions just before saving data in the database, after it's deleted and so on. The underlying database is MySQL.
Now we would like to use tools such as Pentaho Data Integrati...
Hi Everyone
Is it possible to create the database from the classes with entity framework 4.0? I found many tutorials on how to do it the other way round. But since we have already implemented and tested all classes of the domain we'd like to avoid changing them to much.
If I used the wrong keywords in Google I'd appreciate you could pos...
I would like to select every column of a table, but want to have distinct values on a single attribute of my rows (City in the example). I don't want extra columns like counts or anything, just a limited number of results, and it seems like it is not possible to directly LIMIT results in a JPQL query.
Original table:
ID | Name |...
Is it valid to declare @OneToOne and @NotNull on both sides of a relationship, such as:
class ChangeEntry
{
@OneToOne(cascade=CascadeType.ALL)
@NotNull
ChangeEntryDetails changeEntryDetails;
public void addDetails(ChangeEntryDetails details) {
this.changeEntryDetails = details;
details.setChangeEntry(this)...
I have inherited a Websphere Portal project that uses Hibernate 3.0 to connect to a SQL Server database.
There are about 130 Hibernate table classes in this project. They all implement Serializable. None of them declare a serialVersionUID field, so the Eclipse IDE shows a warning for all of these classes.
Is there any actual need for t...
What's a synonym for a "many-to-many" relationship? I've finished writing an object-relational mapper but I'm still stumped as to what to name the function that adds that relation.
addParent() and addChild() seemed quite logical for the many-to-one/one-to-many and addSuperclass() for one-to-one inheritance, but addManyToMany() would sou...

Hi,
I've got a MySQL 5.1.41 database which i'm trying to fill with doctrine, but doctrine does not insert the relations correctly. My YAML is:

Howdy,
Having built most of my DAL using NHibernate, I've now discovered that the SQL Server's Cascade On Delete rules also need to be taken into account in my HBM files too. I've been using bags for all my collections, but there doesn't seem to be a way to add a cascade="delete" attribute to a bag. I can change all my bags to sets, b...
Hi Guys,
I've got two tables (items / tags). Item has and belongs to many tags - tag has and belongs to many items.
It's no problem for me to fetch all related tags like:
$item = ORM::factory('item', 4);
foreach($item->tags as $tag){....}
But how can i fetch only one... and maybe a specific one?
Thanks in advance!
