Hi everyone. I'm using some PHP scripts from FeedForAll to join together RSS feeds (RSSmesh) and display them as HTML (RSS2HTML).
Because I intend to run these scripts fairly intensively and don't want the resulting HTTP requests and bandwidth to count towards my hosting quota, I am in the process of moving to running them on the web ho...
Hello,
The past few days I've been trying to find out how I can save emails as drafts using php. I've created an emailaddress that uses imap (and resides on the same server).
What I would like to do is to use php to create an email and store it in the drafts folder. These emails would then be recognized by the email client (ms office o...

Hi friends,
This is one of the most bizarre errors I've come across. So I've written a little file upload web app for my friend and it works fine for any file less than or equal to 742kB in size. Needless to say, I arrived at this precise number based on relentless testing.
Weird part is that if the file size is just a few KB more, fo...

hey all, I have the following snippet of php code
if($fp = fopen($url, 'r')) {
stream_set_timeout($fp, 1);
stream_set_blocking($fp, 0);
}
$info = stream_get_meta_data($fp);
I'd like the request to timeout after 1 second... if I put a sleep(20) in my $url that I'm reading it just waits the whole 20 seconds and never times out...
Just a curious question but is there any programs that can help/aid you when you write PHP codes? Say there is an error in your code and using this program it would help you locate it, etc.
I might be thinking too much...

I'm familiar with the Front Controller pattern, in which all events/requests are processed through a single centralized controller.
But what would you call it when you wish to keep the various parts of an application separate at the presentation layer as well? My first thought was "Facade" but it turns out that's something entirely diff...

We are looking at Magento as a possible commerce solution, but we are reading more bad than good on the free product. However Magento sells itself as the best thing ever, so I am confused on its actual value. Thought I'd ask the pros here.
Can any seasoned developer here explain the difficulties in using Magento not only as a commerce s...

I want to delete a range of data from a text file using PHP. Let's assume the file contains the following:
Hello, World!
I want to delete everything from character 2 to character 7. The actual file I need to do this with is very large, so I don't want to have to read the large file in order to delete just a small, given range of data....
I used to have database entries separated by ampersands (&), but this was causing certain search issues so I decided to encapsulate my entries on both sides by $ and & symbols like:

$unsplitItems = $row['files'];

Can you run some script before the uploading of a file starts in php? Example, I'm POSTing to upload.php, and in that file I want to check their $_SESSION first before I start wasting bandwidth on them and the file stats uploading to my server. I'm using php 5.2.11 on nginx.

I would like to implement operations that is undoable in a short time after the user have done them. I.e. if a user upvotes a photo in a photo-site, he/she can undo the vote within 30 seconds. This is similar to how the voting on StackOverflow is working, you can undo your votes for a short time.
How should I implement it? I guess that ...
