I thought I heard that py2exe was able to do this, but I never figured it out. Has anyone successfully done this? Can I see your setup.py file, and what command line options you used?
Basically I'm thinking of it giving me a single executable file that does something like unzips itself to maybe /temp and runs.

Hi,
I tried to package a Twisted program with py2exe, but once I run the exe file I built, I got a "No module named resource" error.
And I found the py2exe said:

Can somebody point me at a good tutorial for py2exe? I've read over the official tutorial but it is rather light on details, compared to all the options one can use when building an executable out of a python script. For the record, my python script uses Python 2.5.2, wxPython/wxWidgets 2.8 and MySQLdb 1.2.2; so if you have specific ti...
Hello,
When using py2exe to distribute Python applications with wxPython, some MSVC DLLs are usually needed to make the .exe work on freshly installed machines. In particular, the two most common DLLs are msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll
The former can be included in the .exe using this tip. However, the latter is just placed in the dist di...

I've written a setup.py script for py2exe, generated an executable for my python GUI application and I have a whole bunch of files in the dist directory, including the app, w9xopen.exe and MSVCR71.dll. One of the modules for my app uses functions from a .pyd file. There's an option to exclude dlls (exclude_dlls) but is there one for including them? The build process doesn't seem to be copying the .pyd in my module despite copying the rest of the files (.py). I also need to include a .dll. How do I get py2exe to include both .pyd and ....

Hi,
how to create a good plugin engine for standalone executables created with pyInstaller, py2exe or similar tools?
I do not have experience with py2exe, but pyInstaller uses an import hook to import packages from it's compressed repository. Of course I am able to import dynamically another compressed repository created with pyInstall...
I am using python 2.6 on XP. I have just installed py2exe, and I can successfully create a simple hello.exe from a hello.py. However, when I try using py2exe on my real program, py2exe produces a few information messages but fails to generate anything in the dist folder.
My setup.py looks like this:

I have an application that resides in a single .py file. I've been able to get pyInstaller to bundle it successfully into an EXE for Windows. The problem is, the application requires a .cfg file that always sits directly beside the application in the same directory.

Hello,
I've been trying to embed an icon (.ico) into my "compyled" .exe with py2exe.
Py2Exe does have a way to embed an icon:
windows=[{
'script':'MyScript.py',
'icon_resources':[(1,'MyIcon.ico')]
}]
And that's what I am using. The icon shows up fine on Windows XP or lower, but doesn't show at all on Vista. I suppose this is...
