Well I am considering moving and have some interviews in other cities and if the question of salary comes up during the interview I have no idea what to say. How do you guys determine a good range? Just search on monster.ca for similar postings or is this some kind of intelligent way for me to do this?

It's fairly well recognized that some programmers are up to 10 times more productive than others. Joel mentions this topic on his blog. There is a whole blog devoted to the idea of the "10x productive programmer".
In years since the original study, the
general finding that "There are
order-of-magnitude differences among

Hi,
Soon I'll be interviewing at a company that's relatively new, has a small team. After talking to their CEO on the phone, I think I have a really good shot. This will be my first development job.
I'm a little concerned about the pay structure.
They're offering a very small base salary, plus profit sharing. What's strange is this po...
Someone asked me to design a database and implement it using MySQL. Additionally, I am also asked to write PHP scripts so that one can do some "simple" data analysis with the data inside MySQL. It is not very complicated. It is like a school database and I will have to write programs that will retrieve all the classes that a student has ...
Hi guys! I recently graduated with MS in CS and I am excited because I just received a job offer from a company I really like for an entry-level sw engineer position. The thing is that, although the salary is not my priority and I care way more about gaining experience, their offer unfortunately is way below of what I expected. Actually ...
I'm working on a project for a customer that is being developed for the Mac.
As a developer who got his undergrad in IS and with a minor and Computer Science, everything I've touched up to this point has been a Windows shop. I've never charged anyone for work on the Mac before, and I'm at a loss on how much I should be charging for dev...

What is a fair commission to pay a software development creative team?
We are a start up and have a team in mind to develop our site, who will lease to us their software, and evolve with us for a percentage. They are asking for what we feel is a high percentage, and off the top prior to the company, company expenses, taxes, employees, e...
I have an internship for a small engineering company. I have been working about three years now. What started as an internship turned into a full-out job, and I have worked to take a total of two projects public. I support my software and help on other production tasks throughout the company. My pay is 10.25 an hour.
This was my pay whe...
I have been offered 8 hours a week part-time ActionScript 3.0 developing while I am studying at University, and have been asked how much I expect to be paid for an 8-hour day. I have one year's experience with the language, as with Java and C#, so I know more about general OOP than specifically ActionScript.
There is some brief portfoli...
Hey,
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I think it's a cool place to try. I'm a Mac, iOS and web developer and I got plans of moving to California. What's the average salary for this job in CA?

I recently was introduced to some people working in the financial industry and it looks like the pay in big banks/hedge funds/etc. is extremely high - probably 2-3 times the pay in the big software companies (Microsoft, Google, Yahoo) and it can go even higher. That's not really big news to me, but it was interesting to get reminded of i...
