I have started working on a project in the financial services industry that is based (mainly) on SQL Server (2000), ColdFusion (8), and some Access/.NET applications. This project started as some simple Access forms/VBA and was slowly converted to web interfaces.
I could say that the database design and application coding was done by pe...

I'm building up a new database in SQL Server 2008 for some reporting, and there are many common business rules pertaining to this data that go into different types of reports. Currently these rules are mostly combined in larger procedural programs, in a legacy language, which I'm trying to move over to SQL. I'm shooting for flexibility...
I run a blog where the community can post time-sensitive community links (sports scores and such). After a certain time, those posts are no longer useful, so I want to delete them in batch via a MySQL query, but I don't know how. I imagine that getting rid of those posts entirely is more than just deleting from the wp_posts table, right?...
I have a form set up where I want to run the function PopulateGrid on it's Form_Load event. I have initialized the DB connection as follows:

Hello, I'm working with the filestream datatype for the first time (SQL Server 2008) and I'm running into issues when I am doing some fast insert/deletes. Basically the speed at which the files are actually removed from the FileSystem is way slower then the insert/delete speed even if I invoke the garbage collector manually (As far as I ...

I tried the query select * from all_source WHERE TEXT like '%A%' (A is the table name). Do y...
I've posted this before but haven't obtained a suitable answer that fits my requirements. I'm looking for a technology to notify a C++ application when a change to a SQL Server table is made. Our middle-tier is C++ and we're not looking to move onto .NET infrastructure which means we can't use SQLDependency, or SQL Notification Servers. ...

As part of a data analysis project, I will be issuing some long running queries on a mysql database. My future course of action is contingent on the results I obtain along the way. It would be useful for me to be able to view partial results generated by a SELECT statement that is still running.
Is there a way to do this? Or am I stuck ...
I have a situation that I would normally solve by creating a feeder table (for example, every date between five years ago and a hundred years into the future) for querying but, unfortunately, this particular job disallows creation of such a table.
So I'm opening this up to the SO community. Today is Jan 29, 2010. What query could I run ...
