Have you connected to view outlet in Interface Builder to the UIView object? Also, can you post the crash details?

Thanks for replying. I believe I have connected the view up. But I have several fields in the view and in the header, none of which I've connected up yet - may this cause the problem? The crash does not cause a dump simply the simulator view goes dark and slightly lighter in the middle and then just return me to XCode:-| I have another tableview that works OK. I'm sure it's how I've built this UIView.
