I'm having trouble with Flash-based videos (FLVs, but not SWFs) playing between 5 and 6 times too quickly. My question is, then, some sort of amalgamation of the following (in descending order of importance to me):

1) Is there something I can do to fix (permanently or otherwise) this problem?

2) Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

3) Has the problem been recognized by anyone else? I mean, if there's someone who needs to patch this, do they know about it?

System information:

-- ``uname -a'' (with hostname blanked to protect the stupid)

Linux ******* 2.6.32-25-generic-pae #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 21:57:48 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

-- potentially relevant ``dpkg-query -s adobe-plugin'' information (since it appears to be what I'm using):

Architecture: i386
Version: 10.1.85.3-1lucid1

Browsers affected include both Chrome and Firefox:

-- text of chrome:about

Google Chrome 7.0.544.0 (Official Build 61416) dev
WebKit 534.10
V8 2.4.8
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/7.0.544.0 Safari/534.10
Command Line /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome --enable-plugins

-- partial text of about: (on Firefox)

Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100915 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.10

I don't really know what other information might be useful. Please do tell if/when relevant.

In the meantime, hypnotoad is a little bit more entertaining.
