Our (beloved) designer keeps creating PNG files with transparent backgrounds for use in our applications. I'd like to make sure that this feature of the PNG works in "older" browsers as well. What's the best solution?

The following PHP code snippet uses GD to resize a browser-uploaded PNG to 128x128. It works great, except that the transparent areas in the original image are being replaced with a solid color- black in my case.
Even though imagesavealpha is set, something isn't quite right.
What's the best way to preserve the transparency in the res...
I'm writing a simple app that's going to have a tiny form sitting in one corner of the screen, updating itself.
I'd really love for that form to be transparent and to have the transparency be user-configurable.
Is there any easy way to achieve this?

I have a Dotnetnuke site where my main logo is a PNG file using transparency. I tried GIF but the quality wasn't good enough.
Anyways it worked great on IE7 but I just saw my site in IE6 and noticed that the transparency isn't working with my logo.
Does anyone know of a quick way to fix this in a dotnetnuke portal?

I've seen a few fixes for allowing PNG images to have transparency in Internet Explorer 6, but I've yet to find one that also allows you to set the background position in CSS. If you use sprites, it's a deal-breaker. I've resorted to using GIF's (which are not as high quality), not using transparent images at all, or serving a completely...
I made a panel and set it to fill the screen, now I can see the windows under it but I want it to be click through, meaning they could click a file or see a tool tip of another object through the transparency.
RE: This may be too obvious, but have you tried sending the panel to the back by right clicking and choosing "Send to Ba...
I made a rotating image fader using Javascript and CSS to show images and unload them. I wanted to use transparent PNG's, I didn't expect or care if they looked good in IE 6, but IE 7 and 8 treated them with the same disrespect. Firefox and other modern browsers looked great. Every picture with image.filter = alpha(opacity=xxx) in it ...
As a follow up to my previous question, I am wondering how to use transparent windows correctly. If I have set my window to use transparency, the UI will occasionally appear to stop responding. What is actually happening is that the UI simply is not updating as it should. Animations do not occur, pages do not appear to navigate; howev...
I'm trying to get something very subtle to work, it looks pretty awful right now. I'm trying to paint the background of a TGroupBox which I have overloaded the paint function of so that the corners are show through to their parent object. I've got a bunch of nested group boxes that look very decent without XPThemes.

I'm having some trouble with Visual Studio 2008 on my Windows XP SP2 laptop.
What happens is that when I start a program with a few textboxes and stuff like that, the boxes are see-through. I can litteraly see through them and see what's on the underlaying screen. Like if I only have this Form showing and behind that my wallpaper, I can...
I'm developing a website (using asp.net by the way) and I'm having a problem with IE6.
When I use some icons near links, using background-image and padding-left on the links, the icons display nice on FF and Chrome but in IE6 they take a kind of "gray" background, and sometimes the flash strangely.
Any ideas? is there some CSS hack to ...
I have a GIF image that has an alpha set, and when my site loads in Firefox 3.0, it acts transparently on the parts of the image that should. However, when I try to load the GIF image in IE7, it comes back as a solid block. Actually, it is like the color from the image bled into the transparent area.
Do anyone have any suggestions for...
I'm trying to create a simple Java application that displays a frame containing a JButton. I'm using JNI to add transparency to the window. The window is transparent but the button is not. Hi I have been trying to do this for what feels like all my life
I have a list menu with block display links, each link has a sliding doors png background image. I have used this javascript (http://www.ideashower.com/our_solutions/png-hover/) to implement the alphaimageloader fix for ie6 using a transparent gif.

I need to make a Control which shows only an outline, and I need to place it over a control that's showing a video. If I make my Control transparent, then the video is obscured, because transparent controls are painted by their parent control and the video isn't painted by the control; it's shown using DirectShow or another library, so ...
