Hi,
is it 'legal' to host GPL and non-GPL source code in the same svn repository, or would that imply that all code in that repository becomes GPL? The difference sources are in a layout like this:
/bsd-code/trunk/
/bsd-code/branches/
/bsd-code/tags/
/gpl-code/trunk/
/gpl-code/branches/
/gpl-code/tags/

I made an application (called WI Assistant) that is a TFS Application.
I got a bug report with this error: Could not load file or assembly Microsoft.TeamFoundation.WorkItemTracking.Client.
I assume that they don't have this because they don't have Team Explorer installed.
Can I package that DLL up and distribute it with my app? Or ...
Hi there,
I'd like to implement my own script engine using the QtScript component and other Qt components.
Since this should be an open source (GPL) application I thought I would be free to do this.
But now I found a page at Qt's website that made me doubtful about it:
What are the restrictions with releasing scriptable application...
Do you know any well-written commercial licenses of web applications written in PHP?
I'm going to review the PHPDocs appended to each file in our private library and I'm looking some inspiration to do it right. How to avoid unauthorised copying, reusing and so on.
There are plenty good examples for Open Source Software but I haven't fo...

I'm building a library from methods that I've found on the internet. Some are free to use or modify with no requirements, others say that if I leave a comment in the code it's okay to use, others say when I use the code I have to attribute the use of someone's code in my application (in the credits for my app I guess).
What I've been do...
Is it legal to decompile an SWF that is licensed under Apache 2.0 with no additional terms? I'm also planning on modifying and using for commercial purposes. My understanding is that Apache License 2.0 allows for modification of source and object, but I'm not sure if I can convert from object to source. Thanks.

Since the majority of legal links / READMEs I've found when browsing icon sets refer me to the general GPL / LGPL (as opposed to a specialized version of some kind) when I'm looking at license restrictions, I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out what would constitute source code, linking, etc. when it comes to images and / or ic...
I've often wondered about this. I'm not looking for legal advice, just casual opinions ;)
If some company publishes an API on the web for their closed-source library, would it be legal for another party to release an open-source implementation of that API? Are function declarations considered source code?

Legalese can be considered an extremely inefficient language, and it certainly has ambiguities. What attempts exist out there to use programming languages (or any symbolic logic approaches, for that matter) to model legal code (such as laws and contracts)?

In the application my company publishes, we refer to 3rd-party software in several places: user manual, in the application UI itself, etc.
Are we legally required to display the trademark or registration mark symbols next to the trademarked/registered names of 3rd-party software? If so, must they be displayed every time the name is men...
Hi,
I wanted to ask (probably a silly) question regarding the packaging of existing open-source components as OSGi bundles (more specifically Jasper Reports).
I have an application that I am converting from a monolithic jar-hell type architecture to something more moduler and OSGi is my weapon of choice. There are various modules I hav...
Recently I have read about Myows, described as "the universal copyright management and protection app for smart creatives". It is used to protect copyright and more.
Currently I am working on a large web application which is in late testing phase. Because of the complexity of the app there are not many versions of it online so copyrig...

Also I need to put some copy rights on several SQL statements.

How should I organize my code to make it happen?

Recently at my place of employment it was discovered that I was developing an outside personal project (personal project being a project I have been working on, in my spare time, for my own purposes, using my personal equipment).

Is it legally OK to have only a P3P compact policy (allowing cookies in IE6+)?
The P3P XML will also be present with company details and a link to the privacy policy, but nothing more.
