By default it seems that objects are drawn front to back. I am drawing a 2-D UI object and would like to create it back to front. For example I could create a white square first then create a slightly smaller black square on top of it thus creating a black pane with a white border. This post had some discussion on it and described this...
I'm making another app's window topmost to ensure that a click in my app brings the other's dialog into views. The problem I'm having is that I don't get focus back to my app after the call. If the other app has more windows one of them ends up with focus, and otherwise no window (looking at the taskbar only) gets focus. Where should I s...
Hi all,
I am trying to create a custom control that displays a bitmap with per-pixel alphablend (as some of you already know for other questions).
Right now I am using a custom control in the resource editor and I attach it to a class derived from CWnd. When I register my custom class I set the hbrBackground of the WNDCLASS structe to ...
I'm trying to toggle the display of a small window based on the click of a notify icon in a system tray app. This is simple enough to implement, however when the small window is displayed and another application takes focus and therefore moves in front of it (z-order) I want the toggle to assume that the small window is now hidden, even ...
I am showing Dialogs with Form.ShowDialog(). Forms are set to TopMost. Some image processing calculations are performed asynchronly in the background. Their results are rendered in the main form by Invoke. So far so good. Strange thing is that every now and then the modal dialog is moved behind the main form. I guess that happens when th...
I have a container control (a Panel) that has a number of Forms loaded into it. Based on user interaction, I .BringToFront() certain forms. However, in other parts of the program, I would like to figure out which form is currently in front. (In other words, determine which was the last form to have its .BringToFront() method called.)
Wh...
In winforms there is a function "BringToFront" that moves a form to the top of the Z-Order. Is there a way to do the opposite--push a form to the back?

Is there a way to manage the window z-ordering of JDialog windows within java?
I would like to able to assign each window to a layer such that windows on lower layers can never go above and obscure windows on higher layers. Even when they have focus. Similar to the Z-order capability that exists for components but for JDialog windows....
I am trying to make a WPF app (regular Windows app, not XBAP or Silverlight).
I want the main app window to support transparency, and show through the desktop below.
But when I specify ToolTip text on a Button, the ToolTip appears beneath (z-order) the main window!
I have a screenshot where:
* Another app overlapps and blocks view of t...
I am trying to implement a very simple little dropdown-style mini-menu that will appear when a website user hovers over an image. The image is a link to download something and the mini-menu will give them a choice of format (flat file vs. chart).
The markup:
<style>
ol, ul
{
list-style: none;
}

I have created a custom action for my setup project and have successfully implemented a form that displays a progress bar for a download step in my install (I'm using a WebClient in my custom action code). So I have two questions that relate to each other.
Is there any way to show a download progress bar in the main setup window rather...
I'm developing a game. I'm using about 150 UIImageView to hold the graphics. I'm simulating a 3D enviroment, so i would like to change the z-order (how close is an object to the camera).
I know there exists :
[superWindow exchangeSubviewAtIndex:i withSubviewAtIndex:j];
But for some reason it's not working, some of the subviews disappe...
Let's say that I have a div that is called mainDiv, and it contains a <p> element with some text inside. I want to create another element (a <p> or a <div> or something else maybe?) inside the same div that is displayed when you hover over the first <p> element, and is hidden soon after you move your mouse away from the first element. Pr...
I'm working with about 20 objects that are moving around in 3D space. Adobe recommends "Using Matrix3D objects for reordering display":
Use the getRelativeMatrix3D() method of the Transform object to get the relative z-axes of the child 3D display objects.
Use the removeChild() method to remove the objects from the display list.
Sort t...
hi,
i have a problem with my children ;)
i have a main-window (CWnd) to which i add several children (CWnd) to it.
the usual behavior should be, that, no matter where i click on the child (e.g. to resize or move), the child comes to front. but thats not the case. only, when i exactly click on the caption.
any ideas how to correct that? ...
Obviously, the straightforward answer to the question is "No", but what's the best way for me to achieve that kind of effect? To explain, here's a bit of background...

I have an activeX control that contains one window that has streaming video being drawn to it. I have a separate dialog that I create in another window that I have made transparent or semi-transparent in various ways (i.e. using the SetLayeredWindowAttributes(...) along with the Layered property [for alpha blending] of the dialog or se...
Hi, I have a problem with the layout of 2 controls on my window.
I have a status bar which is located at the bottom of the window. Now I want to create a toolbar that will be located at the bottom also, but above the status bar. I used the CCS_BOTTOM style but the problem is is that the toolbar goes behind the status bar and becomes bar...
I have a Windows box that is running three applications. When the applications are started each application creates a borderless window which is positioned such that they overlap in a particular way.
At the moment, when I click on a control on the bottom window, it comes to the top of the window stack.
I need to ensure that each windo...
I would like to define the z order of the views of a RelativeLayout in Android.
I know one of doing this is calling bringToFront.
Is there are better way of doing this? It would be great if I could define the z order in the layout xml.
